Over the weekend, a world record was set at the Junior Market Barrow Auction at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The Grand Champion Junior Market Barrow sold for $208,000. The buyers were Jacqueline and Jon Hodges, Linda and David Johnson, Becky and Kelly Joy, and Julie and Alan Kent. A barrow is a male pig.
The Reserve Grand Champion Barrow sold for a world record-breaking bid of $128,000. Sheila and Emmett O. Story Jr., Mickie and Jim Clark, Robert Clay and Schaefer Ranchwear, and Michael Morgus were the buyers.
Other big bids at the rodeo came at the junior market steer auction. The Grand Champion Steer was bought by James Alan Kent Development and J. Marcus Laney for $300,000. The Reserve Grand Champion Steer went for $280,000.
