Peaches, the 2015 grand champion steer, drew $300,000 at the Houston Rodeo auction Saturday afternoon.
The steer, weighing in at 1,379 pounds, was raised by Caitlen Hope Doskocil from the central Texas town of Holland. The 17-year-old, who heads to Texas A&M University in the fall, has competed at the rodeo for nine years.
She takes home $70,000 for her first-place steer, which was purchased by James Alan Kent Development and J. Marcus Laney. Peaches will be donated back the the rodeo, Kent said Saturday afternoon.
Kent has been a contributor to the rodeo since 1979.
